“Social Technologies” Hackathon

On November 23-24, 2019, two teams of GUIMC students took an active part in a two-day hackathon, which is annually held by the Center for Social Innovation “Social Technologies”. The hackathon is two days of brainstorming, engineering creativity and big discoveries. Participants assemble a team, come with an idea or a project, and present it to experts. The main feature of this hackathon is that the project should help people with disabilities.

Our students came to the hackathon with two ideas:

— UniGuide chatbot for Telegram that helps students with disabilities navigate the university. May be useful for students who have communication problems (deaf, hard of hearing, people with ASD, etc.). Team members: Maxim Prokhorov, Evgeny Korotenko, Maxim Vasiliev, Igor Karpov, Ivan Melikhov, Vladislav Yushkov.

— VT (virtual text) – special glasses for broadcasting subtitles in real time. The project will allow hearing impaired and deaf people to go to cinemas for regular screenings. Team members: Maria Donchenko, Stepan Dyuzhev, Andrey Mitichev, Bogdan Pylaev, Maxim Yarovenko.

The teams spent these two days very productively – they created prototypes of their projects, prepared colorful presentations and successfully spoke to the expert jury. Unfortunately, our teams did not win any prizes, but despite this, the impressions were the most positive. Following the results of the hackathon, the director of GUIMC announced gratitude to all participants for the successful presentation of the university at this event.
